Blue Genes

Blue Genes

It’s turning into a busy fall. This month I read Blue Genes by Val McDermid, the 5th of the Kate Brannigan Mysteries (1996). I read it in the combined edition Blue Genes & Star Struck (2018).

It’s the 1990s. Kate Brannigan is a workaday private detective in Manchester, UK, trying to pay the bills, so she’s got three cases going at the same time—one a straight-up fraud case, one involving a music group whose publicity is being sabotaged, and one involving the murder of a fertility doctor. So her plate is full, she’s rocketing back and forth among her cases as leads present themselves, and she’s not above bending the rules when required, particularly when the cops aren’t looking.

Lots of twists and turns and surprising action (and a few red herrings) as the cases heat up and Brannigan risks her life to to figure out the whos and the whys of the mayhem and murder. Lots of fun.

Happy reading!
